Now that we have kids and have been married a while, Valentine's Day is a little different around here... not bad... just different. Now it's a little harder to go out somewhere special because we have to find a babysitter and add in the cost of the sitter to the cost of our date night. It's a little less important to us that we get each other a special gift. Drew buys me flowers regularly and I buy him chocolate regularly so we've got that covered! =) It's not as important to us as it once was that we make Valentine's Day a super romantic day for just the two of us. Valentine's Day is now about making fun crafts with the kids, decorating Valentine's Day cookies, and celebrating the holiday "kid" style.
Heart shaped PB&J sandwiches for lunch today! (Eloise is very into wearing her blanket as a cape these days!) |
What fun glasses! |
As usual, being silly when I ask him to smile for a picture! |
Kisses for Daddy. This girl is a definite Daddy's girl! |
Speaking of pizza, this Papa Murphy's commercial I saw the other day really hits the nail on the head. Although Valentine's Day looks a little different for us now that we have kids, it's honestly even {better}!
There's something very romantic about spending Valentine's Day with my children and my husband... a man that I've weathered several storms with, the man who is the father of my children, the man that I fall more and more in love with each year. Even though we're not doing anything super special today, I'm celebrating this day {and every day} with my amazing family. And that's special.
Our Valentine's Day this year won't consist of Drew and I enjoying a private dinner at The Signature Room, staring dreamily into each other's eyes as he places a bracelet from Tiffany's on my wrist and I hand him a new iPad. There will be some Valentine's Days like that in our future but this year won't be one of them. But there will still be lots of love between us today and every day.... {and} we may even get a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's to celebrate the day.
Happy Valentine's Day!
(As a side note, we LOVE Papa Murphy's Pizza! Their Chicken Bacon Artichoke and Herb Chicken Mediterranean pizza are amazing! And their awesome new commercial makes me love supporting them even more.)
Celebrating love is important, and it sounds like you've got that under control!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Missy. It is so important! You can never celebrate those you love enough... no matter what day of the year it is!
DeleteSounds like you are doing great! We have been together 26 yrs this weekend...done the romantic, then the kiddos and finally getting back to the "us" time...I wouldn't exchange any of it! Happy Valentines Day and thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow! 26 years is such an accomplishment!!! Congratulations. Not many couples can say that these days! I am enjoying this time with little kiddos at home but I am also looking forward to having that us time again once the kids are out of the house. A season for everything though and I'm enjoying where we're at right now. =)
DeleteAwwhhh This is a precious post!! Things do change once you have children! I mean you are right. The cost of getting a sitter and finding a place to eat (those places are super crowded) I find it to be not worth it. We started celebrating after V-day (heaven forbid..lol) I have lost my drive for Vday. I have learned to enjoy him the other than just V-day! It just happens to be the sacrifices we make as parents. They are so worth it! Happy Valentines Day love!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. When you add in the cost of the babysitter sometimes it just makes it sound all the more appealing just to order some take out and enjoy dinner at home after the kids are in bed. ;) Free date night! Glad you aim to celebrate your hubby every day of the year and not just V-Day! =) That's the way to do it and that way you're not too disappointed if Valentine's Day isn't as "special" as we are lead to believe it should be!
DeleteI think Valentine's Day is about celebrating love for everyone, not just a spouse, so I think you're doing a fantastic job of celebrating! Hope y'all had a great day!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to think of it. Valentine's Day should be about celebrating love for everyone in your family not just your spouse. A good reminder when you have little kids at home and can't celebrate just the two of you every year!
DeleteValentines Day was fun at work. We bought pink heart puffy stickers for all our patients, co workers and anyone walking buy.. got 'stuck' with our love. Small chocolates were shared amongst friends in the office. My real celebration yesterday was 'red dress' day. A day of awareness for women with heart disease. A dear friend survived a massive coronary 9 years ago.. I wear my red dress for Kristen.. 'this curtsey is for you" is my slogan for her <3 . Another very dear friend passed away less than a year ago.. and I wear my heart (always) for you Trudy <3 . Valentines Day is a 'red dress' day of love in a different light, a very special day to remember my other true loves.. my friends.. the one's who are here today to celebrate and the one's who are here in my heart to carry me. Forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great friend you are to wear a red dress in honor of your friends on Valentine's Day. Sounds like it was a great day for you and you made it special for so many people!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet commercial!! :-) It is definitely about the kids now and that's okay. :-) We have never been big on Valentine's Day. I remember the first year Ben and I were dating we talked about getting things for each other and decided against it. We wrote love letters to each other, but we didn't do any big dinner. My sisters were astonished, here we were "in love" and we didn't even do anything romantic?? :-)
ReplyDeleteLol! Writing love letters to each other is a sweet and romantic thing to do! We usually do like to do something special just the two of us to celebrate certain holidays but some years it's just not possible and with kids it often makes it a little trickier. But it's ok. It's just a season of life and there are lots of things to enjoy about having kids and celebrating holidays through their eyes!
